Texaco - Wings Of Texaco #9 (2001) 1929 Buhl CA-6 Spokane Sun-God bi-plane (bank) - REGULAR EDITION -- The die-cast body is decorated with authentic tampo-printed Texaco graphics. Action features include the free-rolling wheels of the landing gear, and a propeller you can spin. The coin slot is located above the cockpit, and coins may be retrieved from a coin door on the underside of the fuselage. - In 1929, when transcontinental flight was in its infancy, the Spokane Sun-God, a Buhl CA-6 Sesquiplane piloted by Nick Mamer with mechanic Art Walker, became the first airplane to make a nonstop round-trip transcontinental flight. A section of the fuselage was removed so that a fuel hose could be received in flight. The Sun-God was fueled with Texaco aviation gasoline and lubricated with Texaco airplane oil, as were the five refueling planes. On August 15, 1929, the plane lifted off from Spokane's Felts Field at 6:01 pm and flew to Baltimore, PA before returning to land at Felts Field at 6:00pm on August 20th. The Spokane Sun-God remained aloft for 120 hours, one minute, and 40 seconds; flew 10,000 air miles; and established a world's distance record for a nonstop flight of 7,200 linear miles. The Buhl Aircraft Company was founded in 1925 and ceased operations in 1933.
